True language of Christian spirituality

The language of postmodern existential spirituality sounds like this: “relax, be true to yourself, do what feels right, don’t feel guilty, don’t be guided by disciplines, don’t let others cramp your style, avoid restrictions; hence, spiritual wholeness, growth and maturity happens naturally and spontaneously as you rest in a secure knowledge of your complete acceptance by Transcendent Reality, whom some call “God.”

Here’s the language of authentic Christian spirituality: Turn, yield, follow, imitate, walk, seek, wait, watch, please, forgive, confess, give, run, serve, labour— habits leading to spiritual growth as you practice behavours reflecting your “new self,” which the Spirit is creating in you, resting in the knowledge of your complete acceptance by the Father, through Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit.”
